Furiosa’s Engine Misfires in the Wasteland

The fifth installment in the ‘Mad Max’ franchise is in theaters now

Nine years after her introduction Mad Max: Fury Road, Furiosa’s origin story was brought to the big screen. Originally portrayed by Charlize Theron, Furiosa was a real badass, there is no denying such is true. The story of Furiosa has been in the works for years with writer/director George Miller. Miller takes more time with Furiosa building out the world and the story of Imperator Furiosa. However, Furiosa unfortunately still falls flat in expanding on her story.

The fifth installment in the Mad Max franchise takes place over 15 years and tells Furiosa’s story in five chapters. It begins with Young Furiosa (Alyla Browne), a young innocent girl who lives in the Green Place of Many Mothers. In comparison to the Wasteland, the Green Place is a paradise. After being kidnapped from her home, Furiosa falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus (Chris Hemsworth). While traveling through the Wastelandthey come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe (Lachy Hulme). As the two tyrants begin their war over land, an older Furiosa (Ana Taylor-Joy) enters survival mode to seek revenge on her kidnapper.
