Even with the best of intentions, television shows cannot always show the spectrum of mental illness. Most times, they veer to the “classic cases” to depict a character’s struggle with said illness. No matter the case, it just feels nice to feel seen. To have a fictional character comfort you in a way that you didn’t know you needed. Television has the power to hold up a mirror and show you your reflection. Depression is something that has been depicted several times on television, most times it is all the same signs and symptoms.

They will typically cop out for the “classic case”. An overdramatized depiction of depression where we see the characters unable to get out of bed, clutching handfuls of pills while contemplating suicide.
